Quarry Near Crossways Targeted by Thieves

6:40am 24th May 2012

A gang of thieves have stolen batteries and fuel from lorries belonging to a local firm at Warmwell Quarry.

A large quantity of heavy duty copper cable, owned by Bardon Aggregates was also taken in the incident which happened sometime between 7.30pm on Monday 21 May 2012 and 2.45am on Tuesday 22 May 2012.

The north entrance gate on the Dorchester to Morton road was forced open by five men with a large vehicle.

The thieves spent several hours stealing what they could, before leaving via the same gate.

Inspector Les Fry, of Dorchester Police, said: "This is a significant theft which has caused serious harm and disruption to the business.

"We also have no doubt that somebody will have knowledge of the stolen batteries and fuel, or be offered these for sale over the coming weeks.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anybody who may have seen a suspicious vehicle or any strange activity at the North entrance of the company's site during the times of the incident."

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 22;35. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
