Weymouth and Portland's New Mayor Looking Forward to New Challenge

A new Mayor will take charge of Weymouth and Portland in its Olympic year.

A special Mayor making ceremony will be held tonight where Graham Winter will pass the mantle to Councillor Margaret Leicester, who is currently his deputy.

Ray Banham will become the new Deputy Mayor.

Mayor Graham Winter said: "It has been an honour and a privilege to have been mayor of Weymouth and Portland.
"I would like to thank all those people who have donated to any of the mayor's charities this year and wish Margaret Leicester all the best in her new role."

Mr Winter will hand over the robes and chain of office during the ceremony before Cllr Leicester takes up her position.
Cllr Margaret Leicester said: "I am really looking forward to my year as mayor and hope to build on the role of the civic office.

"It is an important year for Weymouth and Portland and I hope it will be a successful one for the borough."
