12:10pm 25th May 2012

A new express bus service will run between Weymouth and Dorchester.

The Government's giving us £2.4M to support the greater use of walking, cycling and public transport.

The money will also be used to expand local car clubs, where drivers share journeys.

The scheme was one of several projects in the South West that have been successful after bidding for funding.

Transport Minister Norman Baker said:

"The schemes we are funding will benefit those living in the South West by cutting carbon emissions, reducing congestion and stimulating economic growth in the area.

"By investing in these schemes we are signalling our commitment to green growth which will help to kick-start economic activity in the region while improving access to healthier forms of transport and addressing the problem of climate change."
