Local MP Opens New Garden in Beaminster

Oliver Letwin MP

Published at 9:33am 9th June 2012.

Beaminster will see the grand opening of Abbeyfield House's new garden and extension today (9th June 2012) at 10.30am by West Dorset MP Oliver Letwin.

The garden project was made possible by two local ladies, ex-resident Norah Gallagher and charity supporter Joan Beatrice Florence Sewell, who left Abbeyfield gifts in their wills.

The new extension includes a ramp from the conservatory to the newly landscaped garden with a bench, a sensory garden planted with herbs and safer wider paths for the residents of the house.

Both of the ladies who donated were particular fans of roses, so a new rose garden has been created, with a rose seated arbour donated by Bobby Fowkes construction.

Duty Manger at Abbeyfield, Justine told Wessex FM "The residents have chosen a special rose called Joan to be planted in the new garden - in memory of the lady whose kind gift has made all this work possible."
