Children Launch Olympic Good Luck Messages

Boats 4

9:22am 12th June 2012

A mini flotilla of boats, carrying messages of good luck for our Olympic Athletes have set sail on Portland.

Children from St Georges School were joined by Olympic Bronze Medallist Nick Dempsey at the national Sailing Academy for the send-off yesterday (June 11th 2012).

The pupils hand written messages decorated the sail boats that were pushed out over the water for a race.

Boats reading "go for gold" and "go Great Britain" were decorated with hand drawn designs on the boats hulls and sails.

Nick Dempsey will be hoping to strike gold in Windsurfing event at London 2012, but he told Wessex FM Weymouth and Portland were already winners; "The area has changed massively. Some things like the roads have been painful, but we now have a new marina, more companies are moving in, it's fantastic".

Scottish and Southern Energy - Sailing Academy sponsors - were hosting the event. SSE is a supporter of the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy helping them to generate 20% of their energy through renewable sources by this Summer.
