Metal Thieves Targeted in Dorset

There's a new crackdown on scrap metal thieves in Dorchester, Weymouth and Portland.
Now anyone selling metal to scrap yard will have to provide ID - passport, national identity card or photo driving license - and proof of address, like a recent utility bill, if they can't or don't want to, they won't get any money.
It's the latest attempt by Dorset Police to combat metal theft.
Operation Tornado is run in partnership with other local forces too.
Detective Superintendent Garrick Smith from Bournemouth CID said: “I am delighted that Operation Tornado is being introduced in Dorset and across the South West Region.
“The theft of lead and other metals from churches, schools, utility companies and local businesses directly impacts upon all communities.
“By working in partnership with scrap metal dealers to introduce Operation Tornado, we can ensure that metal thieves will no longer be able to anonymously dispose of metal for cash.
