Pair of Electric Buses Hit the Road in Dorchester
12:28pm 3rd July 2012
The very first Electric Bus Service in the south of England has been launched in Dorchester.
The 2 battery powered vehicles cost 196 thousand pounds each and were part funded by the Government.
They replace the old diesel buses on the number 6 route from Dorchester centre to Poundbury.
It's the latest innovation to lower carbon emissions and protect the environment.
Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Dorset County Council Peter Finney says people are really enjoying them, and he hopes the service can expand in the future; "It's remarkable we've been able to do this when money is so tight, but we've found the money to fund the electric buses and it's a good job we did".
