The body of Dorset based soldier Warrant Officer 2nd Class Leonard Thomas has returned home.

He was shot and killed by a rogue Afghan gunman in Helmand Province on Sunday, 2 other British troops also lost their lives in the incident.

Warrant Officer Thomas from the Royal Signals - based at Blandford Camp - was repatriated to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire yesterday (Thursday 5th July 2012).

The 44 year old had volunteered to go to Afghanistan on a final tour of duty after a stellar military career spanning 20 years.

The Ministry of Defence says a man who's believed to be responsible for the shooting is in custody.
