Social Network Gossip a Worry for Dorset Police

If you're concerned about dodgy emails or messages on your social networking page ... You can find out if criminals are trying to scam you on a Dorset Police website.

The advice comes after rumours of scams started on social networking sites.

There are no confirmed reports of genuine scams occurring in Dorchester, Weymouth, Portland or Bridport, but Police say talk on sites like Twitter and Facebook is becoming a concern.

Users have been sharing messages about scams which have "gone viral" over the internet. But they're turning out to be false.

Dorset Officers are reminding computer users to check their specialised "Scambusters" website if they think they've been targeted before telling others.
