School Bus Web Page Launched For Parents

8:20am 30th August 2012

A web page which allows parents to check whether their child's school bus has been delayed will go live on Monday (3rd September).

It comes as a response to the Damory Coaches fiasco last year, which saw schoolchildren stranded by the side of the road when buses were either late or didn't turn up.

Dorset County Council will post up-to-the-minute information for parents on the page, including details of replacement buses.

More than 7,000 children will be travelling to school by bus, with the majority – around 5,500 – using school buses provided by the county council. A total of 169 different routes will be in operation, 145 of which will be run by contractors Damory Coaches of Blandford.

Peter Finney, the council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“We take our role in getting children to school very seriously, and we have learned lessons from the problems we encountered last year. New procedures are in place to improve the way we work with Damory and other contractors, and make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

“As part of our improvements to customer service, if any buses are delayed, parents can check the new web page. We will update it as soon as any problems are reported to us. If a bus is late, people can check it to find out when the bus or a replacement vehicle is due to arrive.”

Steve Hamilton, Engineering Director of Damory Coaches, added:

“We have been working extremely closely with Dorset County Council this year to make sure everything is in place for the start of term.

“With such a large number of routes, there are occasional problems but we are confident that we have good systems in place to keep any problems to a minimum.”

The web page can be found at http://www.dorsetforyou.com/school-transport/school-transport-updates.
