Happy 40th Birthday To Wyvern School

9:18am 24th October 2012

An important birthday is being celebrated at a special school in Weymouth today.

Wyvern is marking 40 years of providing youngsters with complex needs an opportunity to get a good education.
They're also celebrating recently becoming an Academy.

Past and present pupils, parents and staff are being invited along to the school this morning.

Headteacher Sue Hoxey said to WESSEX FM:

"Just over 40 years ago, the most complex children were recognised as having a right to an education and Wyvern school came into being. Over the last four decades, many children have contributed to making Wyvern school a happy and special place to learn, and staff have worked hard to increase opportunities for children with special educational needs and improve the quality of education that we provide.

"As we celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the school, we are embarking on the next stage of our journey having recently become an Academy. We look forward to a future where we focus on developing educational opportunities for the children at Wyvern Academy and the wider community, as well as building ever stronger partnerships with our colleagues in health and care to provide the best outcomes for children and their families."
