11:01am 2nd November 2012

Dorset County Council has appointed their first female Chief Executive.

Councillor Debbie Ward replaces outgoing Chief David Jenkins who's stepping down after almost 14 years at the helm.

The mother of 2 leaves her post as the Council's Director for Adult and Community Services which she's held for 2 and half years.

Debbie said: "I will take up the job with enthusiasm and a clear sense of responsibility for the leadership I will need to show as we rise to the significant challenges of the coming years.

"I am particularly looking forward to working with my colleagues, the many committed staff, partners, councillors and most importantly communities and people across this beautiful county of Dorset."
