Weymouth Mayor Launches Christmas Appal
7:52am 29th November 2012
Christmas lunch for the elderly and vulnerable and meals for the homeless.
They're just a few people in Weymouth and Portland that the town's Mayor is hoping to help this Christmas.
Margaret Leicester has launched her Christmas Appeal Fund with the help of the Lions Club.
Last year over two and a half thousand pounds was raised to help people in need.
Cllr Leicester said: "The Christmas Fund makes such a big difference to many people throughout Weymouth and Portland.
"The borough has such a great community spirit and I am always very grateful for the hundreds of people who donate and help raise money.
"I would also like to say a big thank you to the Weymouth & Portland Lions Club for administering the fund again. Their tremendous efforts really do help those locally in need."
Mr Les Board of Weymouth & Portland Lions Club, said: "I would like to thank everyone for their kind donations to the Mayor's Fund last year; it is only with their kindness that we are able to make life a little bit easier for those in our community in greatest need."
Donations of any amount are greatly received and can be sent to Mayor's Christmas Fund Appeal, Council Offices, North Quay, Weymouth, DT4 8TA or they can be dropped in at the reception desk where appeal envelopes are available. All donations will be acknowledged, unless you ask to remain anonymous.
