Party Goers Warned to Be Extra Careful in Dorchester and Weymouth
3:29pm 7th December 2012
If you're heading out on the town tonight or know someone who is, Dorset Police has some advice for you.
It's Day 7 of the Force's Advent Calendar and today's all about staying safe this party season.
They're urging revellers to go out with a group of friends, NEVER walk home alone and make sure your phone is fully charged.
All of the above may seem obvious but Dorset Officers hope the advice will reduce the chances of revellers becoming victims of sexual offences.
They're asking party goers to plan ahead, stay together and make sure you know how you're getting home before heading out into town.
Detective Superintendent Andy Clowser said: "We've already received a number of allegations of serious sexual assault in December where the victims have consumed excessive amounts of alcohol.
"Unfortunately, we know that there are individuals who will take advantage of people who get so intoxicated that they become vulnerable.
"Don't end up drinking too much, staggering home alone or going home drunk with someone you barely know.
"In most cases of rape, victims know their attacker - often they will have met them while on a night out."
More information about how to stay safe on a night out is available on the Dorset Police website.
