Festive Song Concert
10:01am 17th December 2012
The Weatherbury Singers’ final concert of 2012 was held at Milborne St Andrew Village Hall and featured seasonal songs in a programme of varied musical styles ranging from the Workers Carol (Martin/Petrocokin) to Is This The Way to Amarillo (Neil Sedaka), and from the Faure Requiem to a medley of Christmas carols.
The forty strong community choir presented a concert of nineteen songs, a number of which featured solos by members of the choir. During the Faure Requiem selection tenor Bob Todd took a solo role during the rendition of Libera Me and the accomplished soprano Nicki Brunt wowed the audience with her performance of Pie Jesu. An additional solo performance was provided by guest soloist, teenager Ellie Timlin. Further solos were featured during the second half of the concert with choir members Louisa Macnair (soprano)singing In The Bleak Midwinter and Peter Casemore (tenor) performing the Richard Stilgoe/Peter Skellern classic, Joyce The Librarian. Much to the delight of the audience.
The Christmas Medley saw the enthusiastic audience join with the choir to sing favourites such as Jingle Bells, Silent Night, Rudolf The Red Niosed Reindeer and Oh Come All Ye Faithfull.
The Weatherbury Singers now look to the New Year and preparations for its annual ‘Come and Sing’ at St Georges Church Dorchester in April when choral singers from throughout Dorset will join the community choir to rehearse and perform Faure’s Requiem and Pergolesi's Magnificat.
The choir is currently seeking to enroll additional tenors and basses with further information available at www.weatherburysingers.co.uk
