Special Night Out For Carers
4:08pm 21st December 2012
In December 2012, fourteen carers of Weldmar Hospicecare patients came to the first Carers’ Meal in the Day Centre at Joseph Weld Hospice, Dorchester.
This event was organised by Weldmar’s two Social Workers, Jo Jury and Jo Davis, to give the carers an opportunity to come and enjoy a meal in a relaxed setting with each other.
A volunteer driver collected the carers and took them home at the end of the evening, allowing everyone to enjoy a glass of wine or two. Volunteer sitters were also arranged for those patients at home who were not able to be left on their own.
A lovely three course Christmas meal was prepared by the hotel services team in the Hospice and staff from Weldmar’s Weymouth Day Centre, Trimar, volunteered as waitresses to serve the meal to the guests.
Jo Jury said “Crackers were donated by one of the carers and it was great fun listening to the jokes and encouragement from everyone to wear paper hats. To see the carers relaxed and obviously enjoying themselves made all the planning and organising worthwhile”.
Comments from the carers who attended the event included:
“Thank you so much for spoiling us, we really appreciate it”.
“It has been a long time since I relaxed and laughed as much . . . it was a lovely evening and I felt completely pampered and enjoyed every minute of it.”
To complete the evening the guests were given little Christmas cakes, made by the kitchen staff, to take home.
Jo Jury and Jo Davis are very grateful to everyone who made this evening possible and are now looking forward to planning their next event.
