A scheme to get more people shopping in Beaminster is underway, and all you have to do is buy a parking ticket.

West Dorset District Council launched the parking prize draw to get more people shopping in town whilst the tunnel is closed.

Every week a winner will be drawn and 200 pounds worth of vouchers can be used in Beaminster's local businesses.

Wessex FM spoke to Richard Barker, owner of Cilla and Camilla shops in Beaminster, who told us, "It is a smashing scheme and very innovative. We have had a good autumn and Christmas and this should now help keep shoppers coming to Beaminster."

Gillian Summers, Chairman of West Dorset District Council explained why the prize draw began saying "we listened to concerns about the tunnel closure affecting passing trade. Shoppers who come to Beaminster will now have the chance to win a prize worth £200 every week. It only costs 30 pence an hour to park in Beaminster so it is great value and great odds."

To enter fill out your details on the back of your Beaminster parking ticket and either post it or drop it off at the Yarn Barton Centre. The prize draw began last week (4th of January) and will finish in the summer.

More details about the scheme and full list of all the businesses participating can be found here.
