High-street Collectors Under Surveillance in Bridport

Officer and Public

7:05am 13th February 2013

Concerns have been raised about a group of people collecting money for a supposed charity in Bridport.

The group in question was wearing green and shaking buckets in Bridport Town Centre the weekend before last (Saturday 2nd February).

Complete with identity cards and leaflets Police say they gave the impression they represented a bonafide charity.

In fact, the people - who are under surveillance - were selling bulletins about cancer in children and organic healthy eating.

The Council and Trading Standards believe they're not working within the law of charitable collections.

Bridport Police want anyone who donated, bought a newsletter or were otherwise approached to give money to the organisation to fill in a questionnaire which you can find on their Facebook page.
