Olympians Ainslie and Lucas Honours in Portland Naming Ceremony

Helena Lucas

4:39pm 22nd February 2013

Portland's Olympic Village has been dedicated to 2 Team GB gold medal winning sailors.

Ben Ainslie and Paralympian Helena Lucas have been immortalised at Officers Field, Osprey Quay, where the world’s top Olympians stayed during the games last summer.

Each had their name unveiled on a plaque in the village this morning (Friday 22nd February).

Lucas had steps that connect the upper and lower parts of the development named after her (Helena Lucas Steps) and told Wessex FM she was really chuffed; "It's a real honour and so nice to have something named after you, I’m so pleased".

The world’s most decorated Olympic sailor Ben Ainslie couldn't attend the unveiling ceremony today at the former athlete’s village. The developments main square has been named after him, Ben Ainslie Square.
