Warning Out Over Pay to Vote Registration in Dorset

7:40am 9th April 2013
(Updated 7:43am 9th April 2013)

We're being warned not to use a paid for service to register to vote for the local elections in May.

Dorset County Council's reminding us it's free to register - but the Electoral Commission has been made aware of a company offering a 30 pound fee to help people with their registrations.

The firm also uses a £1.53 a minute premium rate number to take customer questions.

Miles Butler, deputy chief executive of Dorset County Council, said:

"We want to make sure that Dorset residents know it costs nothing to register to vote.

"It is important that people register to vote, as elected members make big decisions about services that affect all of our daily lives.

"Dorset County Council is responsible for a wide range of services including highways, waste management, children's services and adult social care - so this is residents' chance to say who they want to represent their area for the next four years."

To be able to vote, you must be 18 or over on the day of the poll and your name must be on the electoral register.

To register CLICK HERE, call 0800 3280 280 or contact your local district or borough council.

The deadline for registering to vote is 17 April.

Further information about the county council elections can be found HERE or, alternatively, you can call 01305 224191.
