More Dead Birds Washed Up Along Chesil Beach

Dead guillemot Chesil Beach A THOMAS

12:07pm 20th April 2013

Wildlife volunteers have again been on the beach this morning checking for more birds, following the incident yesterday when more than 100 were discoverd on Chesil Beach.

But exactly where they've come from remains a mystery.

This morning another 5 dead birds were picked up, but Marc Smith, from Dorset Wildlife Trust's Chesil Beach Centre told Wessex FM he believed that was more due to a change in the wind, which changed to Easterly overnight, blowing birds and debris away from the coast.

He says some of the birds are being sent to Steve Rowland at Plymouth university, who's been analysing the substance that's killed them, in a bid to discover where its come from.
