Walkers Raise Thousands Before Taking A Step
4:59pm 8th May 2013
Two Dorset nurses have raised over £10,000 for charity before they've even set off on their Jurassic Coast challenge!
Julia Miles and Jane Hargreaves will be walking our 95 mile coastline from Exmouth to Sandbanks starting on the 13th of May.
They estimate it'll take eight days and it's all to raise money for Weldmar Hospice, the very charity they work for.
We had a chat with the pair who are very much looking forward to their 'holiday' as they put it! They told us that along the way they'll be thinking of their patients and that they've "had a couple of messages with some of the donations from people, or relatives of people, who we've cared for in the past, which has been really touching, which is really what makes it so worthwhile."
Jane continued to say why she thought people had been so generous, "It is a local charity, I think that's its strength as well. A lot of people will know someone that's used the services in some way or another. And like Julia says, none of us know when we may need it, or a loved one."
They say they are both overwhelmed with the current total of £10,336.84, but encourage anyone to give anything as they tiniest amount makes a big difference.
On their trek Julia and Jane will be sporting t-shirts with Weldmar on, so you may see them on their way.
