Police Hunt Thieves after 4 Businesses Hit in Crime Spree Overnight, in Dorset
4:04pm 14th May 2013
Local businesses have been left counting the cost after thieves targeted their premises in an overnight spree, in South Dorset.
Money was stolen and hundreds of pounds worth of criminal damage inflicted on Moreton Tea Rooms in Dorchester, Skippy's Fish and Chips, Os Aquatics and a furniture store in Wareham, sometime overnight (Monday 13th - Tuesday 14th May).
Raiders gained entry by breaking through doors, roofs and windows creating hundreds of pounds worth of damage in the process.
It's believed the incidents could be linked to one group of thieves but Dorset Police say they're treating each case individually.
Kate Sutherland from Moreton Tea Rooms told us they had cash, charity boxes and tips were taken: "It seems they got through via a window using glass cutters and they opened our safe. They weren't opportunistic they clearly had the right tools. They took cash, money from the tip bowl and charity boxes".
Kate says it's a real knock for the business: "Things were just picking up after a dismal winter and we had a really good busy Easter and bank holiday weekend, things were looking bright and rosy and now we've been bashed up again".
Dorset Police are still investigating and no one's been arrested yet.
