A former Dorchester goal keeper is holding a day (26 October) of sporting activities for a Weymouth Footballer struck down by a life-threatening illness.
Terra's midfielder Kyle Critchell's currently recovering from severe Sepsis, which occurs when the body overreacts to an infection.
According to the Sepsis Trust, "Sepsis claims over 37,000 lives in the United Kingdom annually; more than breast cancer and bowel cancer combined."
The man behind the fundraising day is Regan Coward, a friend of Kyle's and an ex-Magpie Goalie. He hopes to raise money and awareness about the Sepsis Trust through walkers gaining sponsorship and donations on the day.
So, on Saturday 26th October there will be a walk from the rec in Dorchester to Weymouth Beach, meeting in Dorchester at 8.30am. The walk will be followed by refreshments and games, such as Tug O war on the beach, then more refreshments before the walk back to Dorchester. They'll finish at Dorchester Youth Club with food provided and the chance to speak to Kyle Critchell.
We spoke to Regan who was very excited about the day, "The whole event is a team based event so...we go down to Weymouth as a team...and come back as a team! So absolutely any fitness level is welcome. I will personally be carrying a rucksack full of sand for a real challenge!"
When asked about the sepsis trust he said, "after nearly losing one of my good friends I feel that it is vital that more people are aware of it".
