Martinstown Cricket Club Extend Boundaries

Martinstown Cricket

12:03am 2nd March 2014

A cricket club in a small Dorset village say they're going from strength to strength under an "inclusive cricket for all" philosophy.

The Martinstown club has 2 adult teams and a growing youth following playing the gentlemen's game at their picturesque Lower Ashton Ground.

This season they're playing in the same division as local rivals Dorchester, who they'll be aiming to knock for 6.

Club Captain Matt Rimmer says they're always improving their set-up;

"Since we've reformed we've now acquired our own ground and gone right through into Premiership 2, so we're currently playing at the second highest standard in Dorset, and we've also got a strong youth set-up and we try and get them introduced into adult cricket as part of our second team."

"In Dorset we have a thriving youth set up and a very good development officer who's trying to push the youth team because ultimately we want them to get to the highest level they can. With a little bit of luck we'll have some good weather this year and get a good turn our and some good cricket going."

The club has started its youth nets on Thursday nights and adult nets began on 23rd February at 3pm at Thomas Hardye School.

The club are open to new members and players who are welcome to attend.

After a successful season in 2013 the Martinstown Club has begun to gear up for what they say will be a challenging 2014.
