Elwood Elevates West To New Heights

Cricket - West Under 15's

9:05am 7th May 2014

The beautiful surroundings of Milton Abbey School saw the West complete a comprehensive victory over their rivals from the North with 12 overs to spare, with a cultured and mature 106 not out from James Elwood being the highlight of an outstanding display.

Having won the toss The West asked The North to bat on a green wicket in blustery conditions.  Dan Stevens struck in the second over clean bowling M Knight for 3 in a impressive display of attacking bowling which gave him match figures of 8.4 - 3-27-4 ,this backed up by a superb display in the field had the North struggling to score runs. With Tom Chedzoy returning figures of 7-0-19-3 the North were indebted to M Nebbly ( 66) and L Wright (35) who's hard hitting 8th wicket partnership enabled the North to post a respectable 206 all out in 39 of their allotted 45 overs.

The West reply got off to the worst possible start with Dom Webb ( 0) being cleaned bowled by H Chant with only 6 on the board.  Tom Blair went for 11 with the score on 23 as the North made early inroads, but C Clark ( 33) and Elwood fought make and in a dominant batting display with anything wayward being punished regained the West's ascendancy.

With the departure of Clark, Joe James (31) played a supporting role in a partnership of 119 runs as Elwood continued to show class and fine judgement as the West cruised to their target.

James lost his wicket with 2 required and it was left to Elwood to seal victory with a magnificent 6 over square.

Joint Coaches Grant Neven and David Trotter were full of praise for their charges and added' the hard work and dedication shown in training certainly reaped dividends for the boys today.  James will take the plaudits for his magnificent innings and quite right, but this was an excellent all round display by all eleven players who are now showing that hard work and practice pays - well done all..'
