Ainslie to Reveal Details on British America's Cup Team

10:31am 10th June 2014

Details of Sir Ben Ainslie's British America's Cup team are due to revealed for the first time today (Tuesday 10th June).

The Olympic sailor led Team Oracle USA to an dramatic comeback victory in the cup series in San Francisco Bay last year (2013).

Sir Ben's success sparked questions about a home-grown team competing with the big guns here in Britain.

The 37 year old Olympic champ has since been building the foundations of a British America's Cup team and it's reported he's secured millions of pounds to make that dream a reality.

Ainslie is due to reveal more details later today.

Speaking to us at the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy last month he said work behind the scenes to bring a home team to the Cup, were progressing nicely:

"We’ve been working very hard for 10 or 12 months now since the last America's Cup. The background work we’ve been doing puts us in a very strong position."

"The goal is to win it - the cup - and bring it back to British waters. It's going to be a huge challenge but we've got a good team together so far."
