WFC "Huge Shadow Lifted" as Club Move Forward with New Stadium Plans

Weymouth FC say they're now prepared to support a planning application for a new stadium for the club to be built at Lodmoor or on another suitable site.

The Club's Directors met with Wessex Delivery LLP, who own the land around the Bob Lucas stadium, yesterday (Monday 23rd June).

Both are now working together after WFC agreed to support Wessex Delivery's appeal to get planning permission to build homes, on what's currently the site of the Bob Lucas Stadium.

After months of consultation and some slight controversey, the team made the announcement in a statement published on their website.

Alan Pepperell, who has been leading the discussions for WFC said significant progress had been made:

"At the recent Emergency General Meeting the WFC Board received overwhelming support to continue negotiations with Wessex Delivery (WDLLP). It has been welcome news to us to learn that WDLLP want many of the things which we and our supporters also want. We are now both focused on working together to explore every opportunity which benefits the club. We want to move forward in partnership to deliver an exciting future for WFC.

We made clear at the EGM that we want a strong, commercially viable club which engages fully in the local community and has a sustainable future. We want to push for promotion in the short term, and to consolidate at a higher level in the future. We are a great club and for the first time in many years, there is real enthusiasm that we could be at the start of something really special.

We are delighted to announce that WDLLP has agreed that it will not seek to relocate the club anywhere that it does not want to go. The club and Wessex Delivery are currently working together to formalise this arrangement. The club has suffered from uncertainty for years, but now we have a categorical assurance that the future of WFC will be decided by WFC."

This lifts a huge shadow from the club. We are now in a position to support the applications at the BLS and Lodmoor because we are in control of our own destiny for the first time in more than 6 years. We will continue discussions with WDLLP in many other areas. These will include looking at other sites for the club, not just Lodmoor, and working together on the design of any new stadium as well as shaping a sustainable business plan for the future. This process will embrace the views of all supporters. It is brilliant to be looking forward with real confidence."
