Skittles - Review Of the Butcombe British Championship Qualifier

It was ONE STEP (357) v THE BASIN (322) at Wyke Regis Social Club on Friday 26th June.

Friday 26th saw The Basin of Highbridge, Somerset visit the Wyke Regis Social Club to take on One Step Beyond. The Basin came to Wyke to gate crash the One Step Beyonds undefeated streak but the host weren’t up for any upsets. Still buoyed from the last win against The Cider Heads of Glastonbury One Step Beyond continued that rich vein of form with yet another impressive home win.

This second home game saw a belated debut from Alan Mutch who hit a top score of 53 that included an 18 pin stick up in the 4th hand which was the catalyst to another outstanding victory along with Denise Brown who also put in a decent shift for the night with an score of 52 that included an 16 pin stick up in the second hand.

The first hand saw us go 5 up but hand 2 showed our superiority by going 20 pins up. As good as hand 2 was hand 3 was a disappointment. Seen as our Kryptonite round we only managed a 53 hand in which The Basin replied with a hand of 63. So now only 10 up we had to find our superpowers again, another hand of 67 in hand 4 got us back in the grove giving our opponents some hard work to do. Unfortunately for them that Kryptonite found itself in their camp and they could only muster a hand of 48. Not enough against our skittles wizardry. Now 29 up We never looked back and finished the game victorious.

So who’s next? Well Friday 4th June we play the Basin on their patch. We are looking forward to stepping foot in their neck of the woods but must warn them we always like to leave places we visit with a momentum of the day and that is to take 2 points.

Once again we will be able to pick from a full team line up with Will Mitchell and Lin Hill being back for selection, so whatever team we put out it is going to be a strong lineup.

Another win this Friday will surely realize our dream of heading to Torquay and hopefully fulfill our destiny of being Butcome British Skittles Champions.
