Local Rugby Teams In Action

Rugby

10:58am 2nd September 2014

In a great set pre season games organised by the RFU Dorset CRC Nevil Jeffery at Swanage and Wareham, Weymouth and Portland RFC were able to play three games against local teams, Wimborne, Blandford and Swanage and Wareham. The club was able to try various player combinations before the season starts in earnest on September 13th.

In the first game Weymouth & Portland RFC won 17-0 after a hard fought game, the tray were scored by Joe Gibson, Khylo Farley and Gareth Parkinson with Ryan Lewenden completing one conversion.

The second game was Blandford against Weymouth & Portland which was one at the end with a runaway tray by scrum half Ryan Keable Kinsella, final score 5-0 to Weymouth and Portland.

In the final game of the day Weymouth & Portland played Swans and this was the hardest test of the day, Swans took the lead after being camped in our half. In the second half Weymouth & Portland pushed hard and the hard working flanker Ryan Lewenden crossed the white wash to score but the conversion kick was just short leaving the final score 7-5 to Swans.

Some notable performances on the day were Andy Bowditch, Chris Hurrell and Sean Murphy in the front row, Ade Walker playing his first game at Hooker. Bryn and Khylo Farley at Fly Half and Steve Nation Grainger playing his first game at full back after being out injured for over a year. Captain Kevin Leatham said, what a great performance by every player and a big thank you to the RFU for arranging the festival and Swanage and Wareham for hosting the festival.
