A new running event's being launched in Dorset this year by the creators of the Purbeck Marathon.

The Purbeck 16 is ten miles shorter - but we're told it's still a challenge.

It will take much of the same route as the marathon, and runners will start half an hour before.

Race Director, Martin Payne, warns of the new race: "The Purbeck 16 is a great opportunity to run in the beautiful Purbeck Hills without having to complete the full Marathon (and a bit). However, runners should not underestimate this race. It is still very hilly, mostly off-road and therefore a tough challenge.

"It is worth it for the views and a wonderful stepping stone to the Purbeck Marathon for the following year,"

Both marathons are organised totally by volunteers, with proceeds raised through entry fees and sponsorship donated to local charities and other good causes. In 2014, £6,000 was donated by the Purbeck Marathon.

Organisers have announced the events will take place on the 20th September, with details available at a new website for both community events: www.thepurbeckmarathon.co.uk.
