Wounded ex-service men, Steve Palmer and Craig Wood are inviting members of the public to help name for their new boat, provided as part of Help for Heroes’ extensive Sports Recovery programme.

Two wounded ex-service men are inviting us to name their new boat paid for by help For Heroes.

Steve Palmer and Craig Wood have been putting their new specially adapted Sonar boat through its paces at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

The day formed part of their training in the run up to the ISAF World Cup in France.

Steve said: “To have the boat funded by Help for Heroes means that our dream can become a reality. We can continue training and competing internationally and to continue to push the boundaries of what is possible post injury. We’d like to invite the public to enter the boat naming competition as a way of showing how grateful we are for the public’s support. Donations enable Help for Heroes to help those wounded, injured and sick, I would encourage anyone that has been wounded, is injured or sick to use sport in their recovery, there are many positive things that I have taken from sailing. Help for Heroes’ Sports Recovery programme provides a great opportunity to get involved in sport from a grass roots level up.”

Martin Colclough, Head of Sports Recovery at Help for Heroes said: “Everyone at Help for Heroes is hugely proud to support and work with Steve and Craig.  They represent the thousands more out there who are full of determination and it has been fantastic to see the remarkable progress they have made in sailing, from the early stages of first trying the sport post injury, through to 2015 as they continue to compete on the international stage.”

Help for Heroes has been involved with Sports Recovery since 2008, and in the past year alone have offered 300 events across 50 different sports enabling over 2,100 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans to take part in adaptive sports from grassroots through to performance level.

To enter the competition members of the public should simply post their name suggestion as a comment on the Help for Heroes Official Facebook page:
