Big Win For New South Dorset Basketball Team

South Dorset Jurassic Coasters are a new Under 16 boys' basketball team which has only had two training sessions together.

South Dorset Jurassic Coasters are a new Under 16 boys' basketball team which has only had two training sessions together.  There first competitive game saw them beat Taunton in the Torbay Tigers tournament final

Playing at the Paignton College sports hub in the tournament on Saturday 17 September, the team won its first game against French team Morlaix 46 points to 29 which they followed up with a 43 - 23 win against Taunton. Winning these two games meant they topped their group.

The next game was closely fought battle against tournament hosts Torbay Tigers who had come second in their group having played against Plymouth and Exeter. The Coasters won in this game by just one point - 35 -34 which clinched their place in the final.

In the final they faced Taunton for a second time and who were looking for revenge.  The score at the half way point was tied - 17 - 17. The Coasters worked hard and went on to win the final beating Taunton 43 - 23.


Steve Sherlock, team coach for the tournament said, "We are all delighted with this fantastic result in our first competitive game with a new team.  The boys have got to know each other in training and are now playing some great basketball which is a pleasure to watch."


Russ Weaver, assistant coach added, "The whole team played their part brilliantly and their hard work has given them their first trophy. Well done Boys."
