Organisers of IRONMAN triathlon and Dorset County Council have agreed the chaos of September's event must never happen again.

It comes after an official inquiry held into the traffic issues surrounding the competition in Weymouth.

Ironman UK have already announced a shorter route for next year.

Chairman of the Investigating Committee, Trevor Jones has told Wessex FM everyone is determined to put on a good show next time around.

"People were very open and very frank about what went well and what went badly", he said.

"We can see a way I think of making sure the event next year can be satisfactorily managed. The last one wasn't."

"Many people had a good experience but far too many people had a bad experience. Nobody is in denial about that. Ironman UK accept that that is the case and the local authority accepts that that is the case. We are all committed to make sure that there isn't a repeat in 2017".
