Basketball Competition in Weymouth

(Updated 12:51pm 3rd September 2012)

9:09am 1st September 2012

Five local basketball teams will be competing in a pre-season competition in Weymouth today (Saturday 1st September).

Weymouth Basket Ball Club's 'Slam Dunk the Funk Invitational', will see the town's own 1st, 2nd and 3rd team, The Bandits, Cowboys and Raiders joined by Somerset League stand outs Yeovil Jets and newly reformed Bridport Evolution.

Organiser and Weymouth Development Officer Alex Fuhrmann said: "We're really excited to be hosting this competition in light of the upcoming season. Over the past decade we've had a great relationship with both Yeovil and Bridport, organising the odd friendly match. We thought this year with Bridport reforming their field and us fielding 3 teams, it seemed like the natural choice to get everyone involved on the same day."

The competition, whose name comes from a 90s pop song, takes place at Weymouth College Sports Hall from 12 today and spectators are encouraged to attend.
