Basketball - Huskies Bounce Back and Ready to Go
9:32am 26th September 2012
It’s the Weymouth Huskies who have had the biggest mountain to climb in local league basketball, coming up against international players and seasoned teams. In a tough couple of years, the squad as had some terrific performances from their established players. Now it’s a new season and they are losing some players to university studies, they have a new coach staff and are out for some new blood.
Huskies and Southwest squad member Ellen Blackwood “I’ve been with the team since I was 13 years old in year 9, it’s been a great experience that has now led me to travelling all over the country representing the region. Basketball hasn’t really jumped out in the area which is strange as it offers such an exciting sport that could lead to some extraordinary experiences.”
Coach Tim Kingman, “We’ve had success with player development at the club and it’s great that we have been able to offer basketball ladies in the local area. It’s now time to reignite interest in the sport and it’s our hope that we can recruit some new players and build towards winning.”
Coach Andy Blackwood, “We welcome all abilities, being able to cater for novice up to advanced abilities. We also have a great social scene within the club; funding raising and promoting player socials.”
Weymouth Huskies have regular sessions for all those wishing to play (whatever the standard), Wednesdays at Weymouth College, 8pm. Your first session is free, some please feel free to come down, try or revisit basketball and talk to our coaches.
