Dorchester Town to Face League Two Challengers in FA Cup Tie

Dorchester Town to Face League Two Challengers in FA Cup Tie

Published at 7:41am 22nd October 2012. (Updated at 1:19pm 22nd October 2012)

Dorchester Town have the chance to be FA Cup giant killers.

They'll tackle Plymouth Argyle at the Avenue Stadium in the 1st Round proper on Saturday November 3rd, subject to any re-arrangement for possible TV coverage.

For Magpies, its their 4th successive home draw in the competition this season, and with 8 wins in a row in League and cup games so far, they won't fear their football league opponents, who currently lie 15th in League Two.

The sides have met only once in the FA Cup before, in 1957, when Dorchester lost 5-2.

Financially its an excellent draw for the club. Argyle are expected to bring a large travelling support from Devon for what is a relatively short away trip for their fans. Then there's the possibility of cash from TV coverage, on top of the £ 12,500 win bonus for defeating Bury Town in the previous round.

The cup tie means the Magpies will now have to re-arrange their Blue Square Bet South fixture against Dover Athletic.

Ticketing details will be released following a meeting between the club, police, and the Dorset Safety Committee,  followed by discussions with Plymouth Argyle over their ticket allocation. Officials at the Avenue Stadium hope to publish the information by Wednesday or Thursday this week.
