Basketball - Weymouth Tandoori Bandits 90 – Southampton Eagles 88

The Weymouth Tandoori Bandits are up against the Southampton Eagles for the first time this year, they were looking to sweep the eagles off their feet.
Both teams started out the first quarter with a man-to-man defence Bandits had a promising start to the game with the starting five playing some high intensity offence and defence For the first three minutes each team traded baskets. With the assistance of Ian Manley with a shot that wouldn't miss and Chris Canham with aggressive drives managed to start a streak of fourteen unanswered points, the Eagles were in trouble early on; The quarter ended 29 – 16 to the Tandoori Bandits.
Starting the second quarter the Tandoori Bandits didn't drop their intensity, looking to take over the game in the second quarter. The Eagles were forced to change their defence to a full court man-to-man press. The Weymouth side decided to punish the Eagles by getting them into early foul trouble to control the game. Due to the press the seaside outfit were finally showing weaknesses in their game on offence determined to get back on track, they kept a solid defense ending the half 47 – 37 ahead.
The opposing Eagles relieved their full court pressure defence at the start of the third quarter whilst the Bandits were planning a fast pace, end-to-end third and forth quarter. Alex Fuhrmann started the third with some fast pace transition baskets to set the standard early. With some exceptional rebounding by Daniels and Dodge, the team were able to keep the pressure on the Eagles. The quarter ended with a promising 57 – 73 lead to the Tandoori Bandits.
The Bandits were feeling confident going into the final quarter of the game though the Eagles weren't ready to hand the game over to the opponents and came out with a lot of motivation and determination. Weymouth were beginning to feel the fatigue built up throughout the game as the Eagles gave it everything they had, including a four point play and a streak of thirteen unanswered points. Dzintas made crucial clutch free throws in the final quarter, finishing the game with a 100% free throw percentage. Even with an inspiring effort from the Eagles they couldn't break the Bandits morale as they go on to win with a block from Board to conclude the game. The final score was 88 – 90 to the Weymouth side.
