No Irish Date for Dorset Star

Horse Racing

7:27am 23rd April 2013

Card's amazing season is over.

Dorset's top equine star has been put out to grass after connections decided not to take on Sprinter Sacre in the Boylesports.com Champion Chase at the Punchestown Festival in Ireland tomorrow (Tues April 23).

Trainer Colin Tizzard said there was 'no point' taking on Nicky Henderson's wonder horse, who beat Cue Card in the Melling Chase at Aintree, earlier this month.

But despite that defeat, the seven-year-old has had a sparkling campaign with the highlight being his Ryanair Chase romp at the Cheltenham Festival.

Tizzard said: "If Sprinter Sacre had not been going to Punchestown we might have turned up. But he's beaten us twice in his career and there's no point going.

"He's fine though and is out in a field. He's had a cracking season and he owes us nothing and has nothing to prove. He'll be back next season."

While Cue Card may have done his work for the season, Tizzard continues to send out winners from his Sherborne yard - the latest being Theatrical Star.

He took the trainer's campaign prize money to almost £800,000 by scoring in a novice chase at Fontwell.
