Race night raises £1,400

Dorchester Poundbury Rotary certainly know how to enjoy themselves and raise some fabulous money for some very worthy causes!

Race night Carl Ashwin about to present some winningsI know! In the picture to the left it does look like I'm trying to pinch a bottle of bubbly but I promise I was just picking it up to give it out....honest Guv!

It was Friday night at Brownsword Hall which saw the gathering of the Dorchester Poundbury Rotary Club holding a horse-racing night. I was drafted in to host and whilst I've hosted many nights, I've never done one of these.

It was brilliant fun with bets costing  £1 each along with a very tasty accumulator for £2 a go which got even the most sensible participants having a good old flutter.

There were a good few Trilby's dotted around the room and I even spotted a pair of Binoculars on one attendee as people had dressed the part for a day (or evening) at the races.

Being a Rotary event, the aim was of course to raise some money for charity and I was delighted to see that £1,400 was raised on the night itself with the sum to be divided between the completion of the water project in Nepal (£107), Rotary’s main global Foundation (£140) and the remainder shared between Dorchester Opportunities and the new Cancer Unit at the hospital.

A good time was had by all and a brilliant amount raised on the night.

Special thanks to club member Peter Noble for the photo's.
