105 of them, some as young as eight will take part in the Dorset County Golf Academy sessions between now and May.

A record number of youngsters have been selected for a Dorset golf coaching scheme.

105 of them, some as young as eight will take part in the Dorset County Golf Academy sessions between now and May, and prepare the players for the season.

Dee Wood, who runs the scheme for the Dorset Golf Partnership says 'It's the largest number since it started in 2009. they've all had to go through a selection process to show their potential and enthusiasm for the game. Now they are being nurtured by the specially selected PGA golf coaches who take a great deal of pride in coaching and encouraging children to reach their highest potential.'

Over the years  the academy has produced players who have gone on to win events at both club and county level. Many have progressed to county squads run by the Dorset County Golf Union and the Dorset Ladies' Count Golf Association.

The academy programme was set up by England Golf Partnership with coaching taking place at five golf clubs across the county, including the Bridport & West Dorset golf club.
