Its after two years of hard training.

After two hard years of training and narrowly missing out on a playoffs place last season the boys from Weymouth and Dorchester have finally been crowned South West England under 16s Basketball league Champions.

During the regular season the boys travelled from Penryn in Cornwall to the Brecon’s in Wales to play against the South West’s finest. In total the Coasters played 22 games against 11 opponents and finished winning 21 only having one defeat to a strong Torbay Tigers team.  On the 18th March the Coasters faced Bristol Academy Flyers winning 78 to 63 automatically sending the team into the 2017/18 playoffs.

The Coasters first round tie was against Chelmsford Lions and was played on the 7th April. The game was set to be one of the hardest the Coasters had played to date but the local boys surprised the visitors and wrapped up the game winning 76-61. This put the boys through to the second round and a game against the South Premier number one team Haringey Hawks.

The Coasters travelled to White Hart Lane, North London where they played their hearts out against a well drilled and deservedly top of the Premier league team. Unfortunately this is where the Coasters winning streak would end but not without a fight.

Assistant Coach Marc Gorman said “Thank you to all the players for making this the most exciting and enjoyable season I have ever been part of” Head Coach Catello Landolfi said “We are in the top 16 teams in the country. You have rewritten the record books!”
