Attentions turned to the FA Cup for 3 of our top local football teams this weekend.

Weymouth were looking to bounce back from their collapse at Farnborough, with a win against Banbury United in their first qualifying round clash at the Bob Lucas Stadium. Abdulai Baggie put the Terras ahead before the visitors converted a penalty to make it level. Brandon Goodship had the opportunity to put Weymouth ahead, but his second half penalty was saved, and the Terras have a replay on Tuesday night.

Dorchester went to Wimborne, having already beaten them 4-2 in the league. It was goalless at half time. But a late equaliser from Callum Rose gave the Magpies a 1-1 draw and a replay at home.

Bridport hosted Tiverton Town at St Mary's Field and they went a goal down in the first half. There were no further goals and so Bridport will now concentrate on the FA Vase next weekend instead.

Portland United are out of the FA Cup and so were in Wessex Premier League action. The Blues made the trip across the Solent to take on Cowes Sports, and came home with a 3-0 win.

It was the first day of the rugby season, and Weymouth and Portland hosted Bournemouth's third team. It went their way as they beat them 51-19.
